Private jets at Boston Hanscom Field
Hanscom Field is Boston's main business aviation airport, about 20 miles north-west of the city, with no large airline traffic and three private terminals run by Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Signature. The airport is open around the clock, but the control tower closes overnight and every take-off or landing between 23:00 and 07:00 carries a night fee.

Business aviation handling
Hanscom has no large airline service, so passengers use the FBO terminals. Massport names three FBOs: Jet Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Signature Aviation.
Jet Aviation
380 Hanscom Drive. Open 24 hours. Executive lounge, conference room, crew lounge and snooze room. Lists US customs, Type I and IV de-icing and three heated hangars (84,000 sq ft) taking aircraft up to a Gulfstream G650.
Atlantic Aviation
777 Virginia Road, Concord. Open 06:00-22:00, on-call services by prior arrangement. Lists heated hangar space, Type I and IV de-icing, on-field customs clearance, pilot lounge, snooze room and conference room.
Signature Aviation
180 Hanscom Drive. Open 06:00-23:00 local, call-out on request. Lists onsite customs and immigration, heated hangar, de-icing and 600,000-700,000 sq ft of ramp. Terminal renovated in 2023.
Worth knowing before you fly
- Hanscom is the usual private choice for Boston: passengers use FBO terminals only, with no airline crowds.
- Every movement between 23:00 and 07:00 local carries a Massport night fee, and the tower is closed then, so late arrivals and early departures cost more and run without tower service.
- Customs permission to land must be arranged with CBP during its weekday office hours (08:00-16:00 local), so a weekend international arrival needs to be set up by Friday afternoon. Customs use outside 07:00-23:00 on weekdays carries an after-hours surcharge.

Airport
| Opening hours | Massport says Hanscom operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the FAA Chart Supplement lists it as attended continuously. The control tower is open 07:00-23:00 local; at other times the airspace is uncontrolled (Class G) and the ILS is unmonitored. Jet Aviation is open 24 hours. Signature is open 06:00-23:00 local and Atlantic 06:00-22:00 local, both with call-out on request or by prior arrangement. |
|---|---|
| Prior permission | No PPR is published for business jets. PPR is needed for aircraft carrying explosives, and airline operations under Part 121 with more than 60 seats are closed except with 24 hours' PPR. |
| Customs and immigration | Hanscom is a CBP user fee airport. Inspection is generally available 24 hours, 7 days a week, but permission to land must be obtained from the CBP office at Hanscom during its business hours (Monday-Friday 08:00-16:00 local). Permission is valid for 30 minutes either side of the ETA. Aircraft park in the CBP secure zone and an officer meets the aircraft. Massport charges a customs user fee, with an after-hours surcharge outside 07:00-23:00 on weekdays and on federal holidays. Jet Aviation, Atlantic and Signature all advertise customs at their facilities. |
| Slots | Hanscom is not one of the US airports where the FAA limits flights with slots or schedule review. |
| Noise and night restrictions | Massport runs the voluntary Fly Friendly noise abatement programme, with a noise-sensitive historic area (Minute Man National Historical Park) south of the airport. Regulations prohibit touch-and-go flying 23:00-07:00 local and by aircraft over 12,500 lb, prohibit Stage 1 aircraft over 12,500 lb, and charge a nighttime field use fee for every arrival or departure 23:00-07:00 local. APU and GPU use is limited to 30 minutes. |
| Aircraft parking | No airport-wide parking limits are published. Signature lists 600,000-700,000 sq ft of ramp and asks operators to contact it for overnight ramp or hangar space. The Chart Supplement notes limited hangar space and very limited maintenance on the military side, and asks pilots to watch for small aircraft parked on the ramps. |
| De-icing | Available from vendors. Jet Aviation and Atlantic list Type I and IV de-icing, and Signature lists de-icing. |
| Other restrictions | Several taxiways are closed to aircraft with a wingspan over 118 ft, and Taxiways R1 and R2 to wingspans over 49 ft. Military aircraft also use the field, and must arrange parking on the east ramp. The FAA publishes an arrival alert because pilots have confused Runway 23 with Runway 29. |
